<p>The most important producing region in north-eastern Italy stretches from the eastern part of Lake Garda to the Austrian border via Venice. The main varieties of red grapes are Corvina, Rondinella, Molinara, Merlot and Cabernet. Among the whites, the Garganega is the most cultivated, in addition to the Trebbiano di Soave and the Glera (Prosecco). The reds are the best known, both the light Valpolicella and Bardolino as well as the fuller and more complex ones such as Ripassa and Amarone. Prosecco, a sparkling wine appreciated all over the world, comes from here, in the Treviso area.</p>
