Amaretti

These delicious dome-shaped cookies are recognized as Italian macarons and were created in Venice, in the splendid and admired Italian Renaissance. They are made with almonds, sugar and egg white and have a sweet and delicate flavor, with a pleasant slightly bitter point and a crunchy texture on the outside and deliciously smooth on the inside. Often served with sweet wine or a dessert liqueur, they are also wonderful alongside ice cream or a cup of coffee, and are great for creating hearty desserts, finely grinding and adding to mixes for texture and flavor.
